San Antonio delivered one of those nights where the NBA shows off its full theatrical side. During the NBA Cup matchup between the Spurs and the Warriors – won 109-108 by Golden State – Victor Wembanyama and Draymond Green provided a moment fans won’t forget anytime soon.
True to his trademark style, Green tried to rattle the young French star during an inbound play. A bold attempt: Wemby, who finished with 26 points, 12 boards, and 3 blocks, answered with a monster dunk right on the veteran’s head.
I didn’t have to prove anything to anyone. When someone talks to you a certain way, it’s right to answer – that’s how I see it. What happened happened
Victor Wembanyama
Tensions rose when Jeremy Sochan stepped in, shoving Green and sparking a mini-scuffle that fortunately ended without any consequences. No technicals, just a bit of friction and plenty of early-playoff energy.
On the floor, though, the real star was Stephen Curry. At 37, he dropped 49 points with ridiculous ease – highlighted by his 16-of-26 shooting – leading the Warriors to a comeback that silenced the Texas crowd. It was his second straight 45+ point game against the Spurs, a team that usually gives everyone problems.
We lost because we weren’t decisive enough in the key moments. We didn’t take away Curry’s offensive options the way we needed to
Victor Wembanyama
Wembanyama still shined, posting historic numbers with his double-double in his third NBA Cup game and continuing his push toward the MVP race. The French phenom became the first player since the Spur’s Legend David Robinson to tally more than 40 blocks in his first 11 games.
But this time, it wasn’t enough to stop a surging Golden State team now at 8-6. The Spurs, dropping to 8-4, continue their growth path.
