Sometimes a win says everything. Other times, someone needs to say it out loud. In the dominant 145-120 victory by the San Antonio Spurs over the Houston Rockets, that voice was Victor Wembanyama’s.
The French big man didn’t hide the feeling of total control the Spurs had throughout the game.
We understood the adjustments they were trying to make and decided to attack them somewhere else
Victor Wembanyama
Words that might sound like a provocation, but the numbers back them up. After an even first quarter, San Antonio took control in the second period with a devastating run, building a lead that Houston was never able to erase.
Wembanyama once again showed how his impact goes far beyond the box score.
I can go four minutes without touching the ball and still find a way to impact the game
Victor Wembanyama
That’s how he continued after the win against Kevin Durant’s team, which is still far from its best form. Screens, off-ball movement, rolls to the rim and defensive reads – the same blueprint seen in the historic comeback against the Clippers: his game has become increasingly complete.
Of course, the numbers remain impressive: 29 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. But the real strength of the Spurs was their collective effort. De’Aaron Fox orchestrated the offense with 10 assists, while Stephon Castle added 23 points. Off the bench, Keldon Johnson and Dylan Harper provided energy and offensive production.
Shooting 58% from the field and over 50% from three, San Antonio dismantled the Rockets’ defense, while on the other end they held Houston below 30% from beyond the arc.
Wembanyama’s message clearly points to the team’s collective identity. And when everyone is playing like that, stopping the Spurs becomes almost impossible.
