The Chicago Bulls’ 121-120 victory over the Washington Wizards didn’t convince Nikola Vucevic. The Montenegrin center, who led the way with 28 points and 12 rebounds, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the team’s approach, calling it “soft” and not nearly aggressive enough in the early stages of the game.

We didn’t do anything we talked about. We played really soft – it was very negative. Obviously we’re happy we won, but we can’t keep going like this: it’s not sustainable. We have to do better.

His comments come at a time when Chicago is searching for stability after an up-and-down start to the season. Head coach Billy Donovan acknowledged the issues his center pointed out:

Like Vooch said, it’s not sustainable to only play half a game.

Against the Wizards, the Bulls flipped the game thanks to a fourth quarter they won 29-22, after struggling through the first three periods. It’s not the first comeback in recent outings: earlier in November, it was Vucevic himself who sealed the win over the Philadelphia 76ers with a clutch late three, reaffirming his central role in the team’s structure.

The Bulls are coming off a stretch of five games in seven days, finishing with an encouraging 3-2 record and moving to 9-7 overall. Up next is a road matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans – an opportunity to build momentum, but more importantly, to show the level of intensity Vucevic is demanding.
