LeBron James will have to postpone his debut in the 2025–26 NBA season. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar, who has been out since the start of training camp, will remain sidelined for another three to four weeks due to sciatica on his right side, as officially announced by the California franchise.
The 40-year-old, who was recently reported by a Lakers fan, did not participate in the first two preseason games and has not yet completed a full practice with the team. Lakers coach JJ Redick had initially described it as a minor nerve irritation in the glute, but subsequent tests confirmed inflammation of the sciatic nerve.

JJ Redick explained that James is “following his recovery plan”, without officially setting a precise return date. Meanwhile, the Lakers will have to get used to starting without him, hoping that careful minute management and cautious early-season handling will ensure a longer and more stable season for their star.
Despite his age, LeBron is ready to begin his 23rd NBA season, a milestone that will make him the player with the longest career in league history, surpassing Vince Carter.
