Bam Adebayo continues to write his name into the history of the Miami Heat. With 24 points in the 121-110 victory over the Detroit Pistons, the big man reached the milestone of 10,000 career points with the Florida franchise.
Adebayo becomes only the second player in Heat history to achieve this feat, joining franchise legend Dwyane Wade. For the Miami center, it represents a meaningful step in a career built entirely with the organization that selected him in the 2017 NBA Draft.
When I was drafted, people thought I was just a defender and a lob threat
Bam Adebayo
Over the years, however, his offensive game has steadily grown. In fact, he could finish with at least 18 points per game for the sixth consecutive season. Against Detroit, he also knocked down four three-pointers, bringing his season total to 94 made threes – the same number he recorded across the previous two seasons combined.
It shows the growth of my game. This organization has always believed in me. Being here this long and reaching 10,000 points with the same team, entering the history books behind someone like D-Wade, is a great achievement
Bam Adebayo
Wade’s franchise record remains far away: the Heat legend finished his career in Miami with 21,556 points. However, there is another statistical category where Adebayo could soon climb to the top.
The big man currently ranks second in franchise history in rebounds, trailing only Udonis Haslem. To catch him this season, Adebayo would need 207 rebounds over the final 17 games – a difficult but mathematically still possible target.
He came into the NBA not known as a scorer. He worked extremely hard to become one. And for this team, his ability to score is really important
Erik Spoelstra
Beyond the offensive numbers, Adebayo remains the defensive cornerstone of the team, with Spoelstra regularly mentioning him among the candidates for Defensive Player of the Year, while also emphasizing how crucial his scoring contribution has become for Miami.
