Anthony Davis could be back on the court as soon as this weekend after almost a month off because of a calf injury. His absence has been felt: the Mavericks have won only three of their last 14 games without him, and his return would be a real boost for the team.
Davis has recently practiced with his teammates, showing positive signs of recovery. Wednesday’s practice confirmed that the All-Star is aiming to be available for the back-to-back games against the Lakers and Clippers, with special attention to the matchup against his former Los Angeles Lakers.
Of course I’d like to play against the Lakers, but the important thing is just to get back on the court, whether it’s Friday or Saturday

The context Davis will find, however, is very different from the start of the season. During his absence, the Mavericks fired general manager Nico Harrison:
It was more of a surprise. Nico was important in bringing me here and executing his vision. Sure, it’s been tough, but that’s the business of basketball

With Harrison out, Anthony Davis’ future in Texas becomes more uncertain. Without the GM who strongly wanted him in a Mavericks jersey, rumors of a possible trade before the February deadline have intensified in recent days.
Some sources indicate that the team will explore the market for Davis, even though his large contract – $121.2 million over the next two years, including a $62.7 million option in 2027 – makes the operation complicated.
Despite everything, AD seems calm:
It’s not a war. It’s part of the game. Everyone, at some point, faces trades or talks about potential moves. It doesn’t change anything for me. My job is to play and lead the team. I have an open line with management and I’m ready to get back on the court

The Mavericks’ roster still carries many uncertainties, and Davis can’t solve everything alone, but having him finally in shape will give a huge boost to his teammates, both on offense and defense, and make things a bit easier on the court.
